About The Area

Once Here

The cabin sits on the famed Beech Creek/Chimney Rock Loop trail.  There are numerous hikes right from your front door.  The Tallulah River which runs close to the cabin is stocked with rainbow and brown trout from March to Labor Day.   You can literally fish from the road if you want.

Take your time driving in though.  The scenic drive was built on an old narrow gauge railroad bed and winds up the Tallulah River crossing seven bridges, passing waterfalls and fishing pools and leading to this last slice of private property before the Southern Nantahala Wilderness Area.

The owners make their home here as well and you are just a stone throw away if you have any problems or if you just need a cup of sugar.

The Surrounding Area

Hike. Fish. Relax. Day trip.

Plenty of activity awaits you just outside the cabin’s front door.  Are you in the mood to explore the natural beauty that surrounds you?  Or do you feel like fishing in the river?  Do you want to hike all day or just for an hour or two? You can do a lot or absolutely nothing.

Towns Around

Maybe you or someone in your family or group wants to “go to town?”   Only 40 minutes away is the quaint town of Clayton, Georgia.    You’ll find old timey hardware stores, a variety of local artist galleries and down home restaurants with everything from Bar-b-q to gourmet dishes.

Further up the road is the Bavarian town of Helen, Georgia.  Folks come from far and wide to visit this unique German village.   All that you would expect from a tourist town is here – putt-putt golf, go-carts, hard-to-resist candy stores, lots of shops and even gold-panning.

If you want a little more culture and activity then you’ll want to visit the growing artist communities of Sylva and Dillsboro, North Carolina.  Just over an hour’s drive from the cabin, you can browse a variety of galleries, enjoy a leisurely lunch and even board the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad for a scenic ride that skirts the southern edge of the Smokies.

If antiquing & flea markets are your “thing” then the corridor from Clayton, GA to Franklin, NC cannot be beat.  There are plenty of places to stop and shop.  Just make sure to pull up to the Creamery for the absolutely best homemade ice cream -- fresh from the diary farm.

Go Four-wheeling or whitewater rafting

We have “toys” you can rent while you’re here.  Book our Toyota Land Cruiser so you can explore the back country roads at your leisure or use it to find your favorite fishing spot.

If you’re feeling a little more adventurous and want to head down one of the rivers close by then rent our whitewater raft.

Horseback Riding

For those of you who like to explore the mountains from the back of a horse, stables offering trail rides are just 45 minutes away.

Roast Marshmallows.  Soak in the Hot Tub.

As night falls, you’ll be surrounded by complete solitude and nature’s magical sounds.  Above your head, the stars will illuminate from the black sky.  You’ll be in pure heaven.  Build a fire.  Make s’mores.   Slip into the hot tub.  Sleep soundly.

Again, welcome to the Tallulah Headwaters Cabin.
